Keep Content Fresh to Increase Traffic

There are definitely times in everyday business when the phrase “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” applies. However, with the ever changing landscape in the online marketplace, it is necessary to introduce some amount of change on a consistent basis to your Web site.

In an effort to keep up with technology and the systems by which Web sites are ranked from an SEO (search engine optimization) standpoint, it’s a good practice to regularly introduce new content in order to alert crawlers and push your site up in the SERP (search engine results page). Knowing this, the question then becomes, what are some easy ways to get fresh content?

Start a blog! Blogs are a great way to network and share information within your specific area of interest or industry, as well as support your clients and customers with pertinent and helpful information. A blog can be used for education, awareness, communication, and many other facets of business. It also serves the dual purpose of keeping consistent new content on your Web site.

Establish a business presence in various social networks (if you aren’t already in them) and link back to your site. These social networks present a great opportunity to gain new visitors without much up-front effort or operational costs.

The number of inbound links to your site is another way to increase traffic. If you have partners/affiliates/sponsors, try to entice them to link to your site from their respective Web properties or blogs.

Perhaps the best part of these suggestions is that they don’t require hours of time to manage. Simply set aside a little time each week to update content and reach out to your audience. Utilize champions within your company to contribute blog entries, update content, etc. Although you may not see immediate results, over time you will realize the impact by gaining new customers and keeping existing customers engaged.
